African Voodoo Music


                            The varied culture and history of African countries contributed a lot to Africa's music. African music relies on percussion instruments, usually drums. They use these as a means of communication through their music. African music is composed of complex rhythm, rhythms that are against each other. This makes African music so distinct from other traditional music.

                            African music is used for various purposes. It is used on various occasions like weddings and funerals. It is used to protest against rulers and to educate the young. It is also used to cure the sick and to pay off the hard work. But African music is usually used to honor their Gods. The audio above is for a traditional ritual which they practice called Voodoo. Voodoo is practiced in Benin, Ghana, and other regions. It is practiced to call the divine elements which govern the Earth. People ask for advice and guidance during this ceremony, thus, the purpose of the drums. The drums are used to let people communicate with the Gods. The African voodoo is now followed in Haiti.
